Sophie Curtain is a textile artist and educator based in lutruwita / Tasmania.

Her work begins with the spark and spontaneity of mark making, using all kinds of mediums and tools. Sophie takes a playful approach with no expectations on what she is creating. Tending to be in the moment, excited to see what is revealed. She looks for energy and texture, something that peaks her interest.

Sophie finds deep comfort in pattern and is inspired by the geometry, repetition and textures of nature. Time in the print studio is relished; working with textiles and inks, the ritual of mixing colours. She is drawn to warm, complex and earthy colours, achieved by her hand and eye.

With the pull of the squeegee and transfer of ink through the screen to the canvas, the reveal of the artwork is wonderful; the contrast of colour, texture and the unification of mediums as artwork.
